Mommy and Me

"An Exceptional Learning Through Music Program"

Parent and Me classes are an immersive learning experience. Children from birth through five are like sponges who soak up everything around them. The goal of exposing children to music at this age is to allow them to absorb it and understand it the same way they understand and learn about anything else.

  • Because this is an immersion experience, there is not necessarily a week by week curriculum guide. During the course of the 10 weeks, we will complete activities that develop children’s musical skills. With continued exposure, children will gain an understanding of steady beat, pitch, rhythm, and other musical skills that will set them up for success as life-long music makers.

  • Music classes aid in the development of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Children in this class will have the opportunity to practice gross and fine motor skills, emotional understanding and regulation, language understanding, and more.

  • Another goal is to teach parents how to incorporate music into their children’s lives every day. Learning music at this age is done through musical play and as an immersive experience. Children learn to speak by listening to adults talk around them every day. Similarly, the best way for children to develop their musical abilities is by being surrounded by adults singing and dancing every day.

  • A final goal for these sessions is healing musical wounds. Many adults have decided at some point in their life that they are “not musical”. This is not true! Everyone is musical on some level. Helping parents to gain confidence in their abilities will encourage them to make music a part of their daily routines with their children, which will further benefit them in their development.

My son, Daniel began taking piano lessons when he reached 5. He had a wonderful teacher and supportive family members. He learned that keeping up with practice was easier than catching up and even with an active sports life and serious homework, he not only stuck with it but grew from learning to play the piano. He will tell you that it helped him in school and playing classical, jazz and rock didn't hurt his social life either. Giving Daniel the opportunity to learn to play the piano at The European School of Music and Chess (he also took chess lessons and liked that as well) was the greatest gift I could have given him. Great school!!
